subject: Great Home Remedies For Tangled Hair [print this page]

Working out in the field is never pleasant when the wind is blowing, and the rain is coming at you sideways. A gale is playing tricks with the windsock outside, trying as hard as it can to turn it inside out, and there is hail that will take away whatever sense was gained over a life of learning. Then there's the sheep. Over the years pap and uncle Tad had worked out hundreds, maybe thousands, of remedies for tangled hair. See the problem is that when you are finally able to remove the fleece from one of 'em, mom wants to comb it so she doesn't have to worry as much over the carding. That wind just blew a hair brush catalogue right upside the head of Tad and nearly bowled him over. The surprise of being blindsided by an excited ewe and then hit in the face by a wayward magazine, nearly did him in.

Carding wool can't use normal remedies for tangled hair. Think of brushing out your own mop after you've wet it down real good and then blowed it dry. There is no pain worse, outside of child birth maybe, than attempting to run a comb through that snarled and twisted confusion. Well, a sheep is ten times worse than that. Oh yeah, they have all kind of things to relax the wool, and long tined combs to work out the jumble, but they never work quite the way they're supposed to. Pap heard about this special brush from the hair brush company that could supposedly straighten an Arkansas mountain road; so we had to give it a try. You can't try any of the remedies for tangled hair while the wool is still attached to the sheep because she'll bleat like she's being drawn and quartered. The hair has to be sheared off first, and then you can hang that mass from a combing board and try to curry it there.

The hair brush company was true to their word though; they delivered that brush right before shearing time, and gave instructions as to its best use which apparently wasn't sheep. Well, sis's hair looks like sheep's wool sometimes, so maybe she can use the thing if it won't card. There may be other remedies for tangled hair, but they can't hold a candle to the hair brush company brush. While pap and Tab cleaned the sheep off and turned 'em back out to pasture naked as a baby throwin' its diaper after a changin', the job they handed me was to run that brush through that knotted wool. It ran through so quick and easy, it was like new skates on a clean sheet of ice.
