Anyone who knows cats, or owns cats will gladly tell you that they are fiercely independent creatures who certainly, despite their domestication, love the freedom to come and go as they please.
Of course for cats that are pets, the cat flap gives the cat its freedom and independence and allows owners to be reassured that their cat can indeed get out when you are not at home or are fast asleep.

Perhaps one of the most bizarre cat flap facts (bizarre to me at least) is that none other than Isaac Newton is actually attributed with its invention! (According to Wikipedia at least) Quite how Mr Newton divided his time from fathoming the laws of gravity, building the first practical telescope and devising the mechanics for a cat flap, I really don't know...but how cool that Isaac Newton invented the cat flap!
In principle, a cat flap is essentially just a hole in the wall or in the door, or perhaps even in a window but as with most things, modern technology allows it to become much, much more! For example, a cat flap has to allow your own cats to exit and re-enter your home whilst preventing all your neighbours' cats the same liberty! A bit of new technical wizardry allows the cat flap to sense the microchip (implanted into the catby a vet in caseit gets lost), so thatonly the cat that belongs in your house can get in, and permits entry for the appropriate pet.
Cat flaps have also become sophisticated in the sense that, they provide an escape route to the outside world, whilst also doing their best to keep the natural elements at bay, not to mention any unwelcome visitors of cat flap size or smaller!
So for the cat owner, there is plenty of choice and plenty of scope to find something that will suit each requirement, so it is just a matter of shopping wisely. There are plenty of online pet stores now, that supply all the various cat flaps and accessories and it's never been easier to just pop online and browse through the choices in order to find the right thing for you.
