If you live in an area where the weather is good enough to practice and play all year round, you are one of the fortunate golfers. But many golfers live in an area where the weather is too cold and it makes it impossible to go to the driving range or play golf. If you are one of these golfers, you need to find other ways to work on your game. The winter season is the perfect time to improve a few neglected areas of your golf game including golf fitness, mental game skills, putting practice, and watching your swing on video.
Practice your game in your mind- Mental practice is not new. Many great golfers use it all the time as they prepare for a round of golf, review their plan of attack on the course, or feel the ideal golf swing before each shot. Take a few minutes a day and rehearse your swing in your mind (just like you are actually playing). As you visualize your swing, you should see it, feel it and hear that great sound at impact (smacking, click).
Keep your swing tuned up- Find an indoor practice facility and if you can't find one of those, set up a net and hitting mat in your basement or garage. Swinging in front of a mirror is one of my favorites. You get instant visual feedback on how you are doing. Have someone video tape your swing and pick out some things you want to work on.
Work on your putting indoors- All it takes is an indoor/outdoor carpet. You can also buy a putting mat made of artificial turf. Putt into a plastic cup at the end of hallway, or you can purchase an Eye-Line training aid and work on your path. Do you have a pre-putt routine? If not, now is the time to make one.
Golf fitness- The winter is a great time to improve your physical fitness, flexibility and stamina. Better strength, better endurance, increased energy and more flexibility will play a big part in improving your golf game.
Don't wait until the snow melts or the weather improves. You can do a lot to improve yourself and your golf game during the cold months.
On the days you can't hit balls try to visualize your swing.
Hit balls at indoor range or just take 100 practice swings 3 times a week. Practice your Pre-Shot routine. If you don't have one here is a good time to make one.
Set your goals for the 2009 season.
Remember that the Reynolds Golf Academy has indoor teaching bays with the latest and greatest video equipment.
