The Vampire Diaries first graced our screens over a year ago now and it seems to have gained a notable following since September 2010 when it originally premiered.
Getting off to a fairly shaky start with the critics, the reviews had improved dramatically by the end of the first season - the second series of Vampire Diaries kicked off with a pretty positive response from the critics too.
It's an American horror TV drama, based on the series of supernatural horror novels with the same title and set in Mystic Falls, Virginia, a fictional town which is home to the three main Characters, Elena, a young human, and Stefan and Damon both vampire brothers. The three of them become entangled in a bitter love triangle which urges Damon to create disorder and disruption around town and not to mention, plot vengeance on his younger brother, Stefan all classic makings for the exciting twists and turns of an action-packed and emotional drama.

The show is filmed in Covington, Georgia, however the location for the pilot episode was Vancouver.
Ian Somerhalder, who many will recognise from Lost, is the highest earning cast member, taking in $40,000 for each episode.
The CW channel, which hosts the show in the USA, celebrated its biggest ever premiere on September 10 2009, thanks to The Vampire Diaries, with 4.9 million viewers tuning in, increasing to an official total of 5.7 million viewers with the addition of DVR numbers
The Vampire Diaries was used in a Red Cross campaign designed to encourage youngsters to give blood. The slogan read: "Starve a Vampire. Donate blood". The three main characters were featured in the campaign also.
Nina Debrev, who plays Elena, along with three other cast members, was once arrested for disorderly conduct when they took part in a self-organised photo shoot one afternoon on a highway bridge, hanging over the highway and carrying out other stunts on the bridge.
Kevin Williamson, one of the producers of the series, originally felt indifferent to the story and didn't have much interest in it, however, after a bit of persuasion from co-developer Julie Plec, he began reading the novels and was captivated by the story.
