subject: Helpful Tips For Better Digestion [print this page]

Our body is quite amazingOur body is quite amazing. The digestive system alone is ingeniously designed and the various functions it performs are so complicated yet all of them are done in an efficient and streamlined fashion. During the digestion processed food is consumed, absorbed, and transported throughout the body to provide nourish. This process also includes the flushing out of toxins and waste matter through the natural process of elimination. Needless to say, the digestive system is one of the most vital systems in our body.

Because eating is a very basic human function, it is extremely important that we keep our digestive system healthy and in good working order because otherwise we would suffer from digestive problems such as gas, bloating and constipation. To prevent these from happening and to ensure that you always digest your food properly, follow the tips given below.

1. Always chew your food well. This is the first step in the digestive process and it has to be done right because everything else that comes thereafter would be affected by it. If food that has not been properly chewed goes into the digestive tract, the different parts of the system will have problems performing their individual functions and you will suffer all sorts of discomforts.

2. Drink water only after you eat. It is not wise to drink while you are eating as the water would dilute the alkaline levels in the mouth disallowing proper digestion to take place.

3. Avoid chewing gum. This practice causes air to enter the digestive tract. When this happens, a large amount of stomach acid is produced which would interfere with proper digestion.

4. Drink room temperature beverages. Admittedly, some beverages are great to drink when cold while others taste best when hot. The problem however is that this practice could cause adrenal exhaustion which can negatively affect digestive functions.

5. Take digestive enzymes. These are catalysts which make digestion happen. The natural enzymes in your digestive tract gets depleted as you get older, thus it is important to boost your supply. By taking an enzyme supplement, you will be able to properly digest the foods you eat. It will also help your stomach better deal with specific foods you may have problems with such as lactose, sugars, fats and proteins.

A supplement that contains good bacteria or probiotics will promote colon health and the right amount of good bacteria in your system will help prevent indigestion.
