6. Local people believe that it is good fortune to start the New Year with a horseracing event. So people gather to bet on their favourite horse and look forward to holding the winning ticket during the Chinese New Year Race Day. The Sha Tin racecourse is filled with fans waiting to start the year off on an exciting note. There are also many celebratory events held at the racecourse.
7. Hong Kong Salsa Festival is a week's festival, which showcases street dances, club parties, Asia-Pacific Salsa Open Championships and shows, and dance workshops by many top global and local artists. This is a celebration of Salsa music and dance in Hong Kong.
8. The Hong Kong Arts Festival is one of Hong Kong's foremost performing arts affairs, and is a literal feast to the senses. One gets to witness international star recitals, concerts, ballet, jazz, opera and dance, along with contemporary drama and a new outlook to some classical events.
9. Every year, at least over 50,000 athletes take part in the Hong Kong Marathon. Athletes can choose to run a full, a half marathon or a 10 km run. The designated route is through some very beautiful locales of Hong Kong.
