subject: Why Do Solopreneurs Struggle so Much? [print this page] Why Do Solopreneurs Struggle so Much? Why Do Solopreneurs Struggle so Much?
In my 16-years of running a home-based business and helping other people run theirs, I've discovered a not often talked about affliction that can ruin a person's success. What is it? Isolation disease.
Many of my solopreneur coaching clients suffer from it and battle it almost daily. Many don't even know they have it. Do you?
You are at Risk if you
Have a home-based business.
Live alone or have a roommate/spouse that is often absent.
Experience infrequent human interaction.
Get little exercise.
Refuse the concept of building a team.
Watch TV, work, read, eat, participate in webinars, or surf the Web in your spare time.
Don't attend workshops, networking events, or meetings with potential clients outside the house.
The Symptoms of Isolation Disease
Experience difficulty getting motivated.
Find that your creativity has disappeared.
Imagine nightmarish stories about your difficult situations.
Gain weight or become ill.
Realize you have a time management problem.
Experience a loss of enthusiasm or drive to work on projects.
Worry far too much about the future.
Suffer from a loss of energy.
Begin to doubt yourself and your abilities.
Adopt the "What's the use" attitude.
Believe you are the only one suffering from this disease.
Feel the business' success depends entirely on you.
Get very little accomplished despite working very hard.
Feel paralyzing overwhelm.
Possible Cures of Isolation Disease
Get out of the house.
Work instead at a coffee house, library or a park.
Go out to lunch.
Connect with other solopreneurs and bounce ideas off them.
Take frequent weekend trips or vacations.
Join my Nothing Is Impossible Business group.
Interact with people other than on Facebook and Twitter.
Exercise ortake a walk.
Hire a life or business consultant or coach.
Attend in-person events.
Hire a bookkeeper, housekeeper, virtual assistant, copywriter, or marketing specialist.
Don't delay in the relatively simple treatment for Isolation Disease. Recovery is a series of small steps that can help you return to the path of worthwhile solopreneurship.
