SEO: Outsourcing and Control
SEO: Outsourcing and Control

I must start this blog by stating that outsourcing SEO activities is not wrong. For many organisations it is a good opportunity to offer another service to clients without the need for in-house expertise that comes at a greater cost.

Already we have an advantage of outsourcing in the first sentence it's cheaper than in-house expertise. However, the point of this article is control.

How do you know what your outsourced company is actually doing? Do they provide progress reports and work sheets to show what's been achieved?

I think this area is determined on the nature of the company being hired. Those that are within the UK for example are more likely to be in communication with you more than that of an SEO company in India.

There are other factors, such as articles writing and submission one of the key ways of building links to a site.

Would you trust someone you didn't know to be writing articles on your behalf which may place some risk to brand values and reputation? The answer would be a universal no', however when some of these companies boast writing 1500 articles over a three month period, what are they going to write about in 1500 articles??

This begs the question of whether they are simply following the comment link spam crowd that adds useless comments on the bottom of others' articles. This could be achieved 1500 times over three months.

Key Learning

As I said, outsourcing is not wrong, but hopefully if you are choosing to go down this route you will see that there are lots of questions to ask:

Who will do your SEO work?

What controls will you have over them to ensure they're doing the work?

What their article writing service really means and how it will affect your company

How will results be reported?

Who will be doing the changes to your site as a result of their recommendations?
