Material science is all around us, from the clothes we wear to the ground we walk on and even the air we breathe. But what are the fundamental properties of materials? Why are liquids, gases and solids so different in their behaviour and structure? Why do some things float in water, but others not, and some things even dissolve? And what's the difference between dissolving and melting? The fascinating kit explores all these matters many more including

Hands on Science Supply Centre

This easy-access Science Centre is filled with over 90 hands on science tools for the whole classroom to use. The centre comes with 8 drawers filled with exciting top quality tools to allow children to participate in observations and experiments. Comes packed in a colourful sturdy 19 1/4" wide chipboard chest with a labelled compartment for each tool. Tools include 12 of each: specimen viewers, colour paddles, hand magnifiers, eye droppers, thermometers, bar magnets, mirrors and horse shoe magnets. Children have the chance to explore common themes in science with this kit. By playing with coloured paddles, they will learn about what effects a colour filter has on how the world looks, and how different colours work in combination. With the mirrors they will observe laws of reflection. The horseshoe magnets allow studying some basic properties of materials (which materials are attracted by a magnet, and which are not), and the bar magnets will help students feel the invisible magnet field, and learn some basic laws of magnetism. The thermometers and eye droppers introduce some basic techniques for measurement and control, and the magnifying glass and specimen viewers will help demonstrate that there is more to the world than can be seen with the naked eye. Pupils can be left to play with the tools themselves, and the teacher can set challenges, such as building a periscope, or making a green filter from a yellow and blue one, or sketching a small object by observing it through a magnifying glass. The resources in this kit will help satisfy the curiosity of young scientists, and encourage them to experiment and learn from things around them. It will also help build a knowledge of important elements of science that will give them an advantage in their later studies.
