A devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit the island nation of Haiti on January 12, 2010. The Haitian people are in great need of help. Raymond Joseph, Haiti's ambassador to the United States, stated on the CNN website "I'm calling on all friends of Haiti and people who are listening to me to please come to our aid." Former United States President Bill Clinton, the United Nations special envoy for Haiti, upon hearing about the Haiti earthquake was also quoted on the website as saying that "the world body was committed to do whatever we can to assist the people of Haiti in their relief, rebuilding and recovery efforts." American Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Relief. According to the American Red Cross website, the organization has released an initial $200,000 in relief efforts to help the communities hit hard by the 7.0 earthquake. Additional Haiti earthquake relief will be provided once an assessment of the situation has been made. Also stated on the website, "The American Red Cross has made available all of the relief supplies from its warehouse in Panama which would provide for basic needs for approximately 5,000 families. In addition, it is deploying a disaster management specialist to Haiti, and has additional disaster specialists on standby if needed." Initial needs include water, food, shelter and medical attention. The American Red Cross has another way to donatevia text message. "The public can also help by texting "Haiti" to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department. Funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti." Once the organization receives your text message, a confirmation text will be sent back to you. The charge will be included in your next cell phone bill. Can't get any more simple than that.
World Vision Haiti Earthquake Relief. World Vision has children in Haiti that are in dire need of a sponsor to help provide the basic essentials of life. For $35 a month, a Haitian child's life can be changed forever. Sponsorship money provides each child with clean water, nutritious food, health care, educational opportunities, and spiritual nurturing. For those who want to know how to help victims of the earthquake, World Vision is seeking one -time donations to help those affected by the Haiti earthquake.
