Different Varieties of Carpet Underlay

The first thing your visitors set their feet upon entering your house is the carpet. This piece of rug plays an immense role in augmenting the interior dcor of the room. The carpet and the style of the room complement with each other. However, with years, this central piece of attraction gives way to wear and tear and loses its glamour. This mainly happens as the carpet has to withstand the maximum pressure by hundreds of feet. To increase the longevity of the carpet, underlay is installed.

Underlay is basically a layer made of foam, rubber or sponge that is placed beneath the carpet. It forms a padding or cushion and imparts immense comfort to the feet. Some underlays are also made of crumb rubber, which are made of recycled materials. A wide range of underlay varieties are found in the market. You need to choose the type that is most suitable for you. The type of underlay should be chosen according to some basic factors like, the variety of the carpet, topographical condition where the house is situated, number of traffic, extent of sound pollution, insulation value and last but not the least, cost. The main varieties of carpet underlay are as follows-

Fibrous cushion: This type of underlay provides the carpet with a firm and dense passing. This carpet underlay can be used in any type of house, having low, medium or high traffic. One minor negative point with this type is, the layer has a tendency to attract moisture. So, it would be best to place a latex sheet or any other low grade barrier of moisture between the carpet and the underlay. If you want to have some extra protection, you can also place a rubber backing on its top. This will stop any slippage and will also increase the longevity of the carpet.

Urethane foam: This type is also suitable for light to medium and heavy traffic. However, with years the bottom of this underlay may become flatten. So, you should a very high density layer to lessen the possibility of the bottoming out of the cushion. You should not use waste materials or fillers more than one percent in the underlay.

Cellular rubber or sponge: The sponge or foam stuffs imparts a great lush feeling. However, this type is generally not recommended for those house with heavy traffic. This type ensure a firm and tight underlay and can also retain odours. So, you should be careful about not spilling anything on it. This type is great for sound proofing a room. This type is mostly used in recording studios.

Instead of going to any retail shop and making a feeble attempt to install the underlay, you should get in touch with any online company. They will help you in every way from selecting the perfect type of underlay to installing it properly.
