subject: Some More New Features Of Xd Memory Card [print this page]

An xd memory card is a solid state storage device that is used to store data electronically. The XD originally stood for eXtreme Digital, which is what the first manufacturers of these products called this line. The companies Fujifilm and Olympus are the only two companies that have the technological right to use these type of storage devices. They are thus mainly used as the memory cards, or storage devices that are used in cameras, mobile phones and other handheld photographic electronics devices.

An xd memory card can be manufactured only by Toshiba and Samsung, but is also sold under other brand names to other major players in the digital camera industry like Kodak, SanDisk etc. These cards are available in a wide range of sizes. When they first came out, they had capacities of only around 256 to 512 MB, but are now available with storage capacities of even upto 4 or 8 GB. This increase is only due to improvements in digital storage technology that has had a major impact on almost all devices in the electronics industry.

There are many different models and types of the original xd memory card that are available now, where each type varies from one other in terms of the transfer rate and also the basic construction. Even though these cards are essentially like every other data storage device available for camera in the market, they have one added advantage of being compatible with the panorama picture taking ability that Olympus digital cameras possess. This technology can be used only with Olympus cameras since the company disables this ability and only then does it sell these cards to other competitors as a means of drawing customers to purchase all of their xd memory card needs from Olympus and its sister organisations. These cards are a major technological boon for the everyday consumer and are sure to improve in capacity, speed and all other parameters.
