Door Lock technology over time

We always look into the comfort and security of our family. Our concern for safety is not only restricted to our house members but with rentals as well. We go through all the procedures to stay them away from harm. We look for a relatively safe place in which to stay and even go to the extent of travelling around until we feel that we found it. We place child proof devices and alarm systems in the event. The door lock is the most simple and yet effective security device ever made.

The rope was the primary locking device used. The thief knot got it's name because it was implemented to notice thieves however the Gordian knot was used to discourage them. We still use this tactic to shut a door without any locking mechanism. It is still unclear as to exactly where the first lock was developed. Archeological results report that wooden locks and keys were used some 4,000 years back by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. The very first known door lock with a key is termed as a pin lock or pin tumbler lock. This design is the widely used lock to this day. The old pin tumbler lock was made of wood and rope and to this day this particular wooden lock mechanism is still in use in Puerto Rico.

To enhance the security standard of the old design of the pin lock the inclination of the pins had to be changed and the number of pins is increased. The improvement that was made to the ancient design had become the established rules of pin locks in the present. In the 1800's the wooden pins were changed to metal pins usually created from bronze or sometimes iron. This new design was then patented in 1805. A father and son locksmith, Linus Yale Sr and Jr, enhanced and refined the patented metal pin lock design The lock design of Yale's is what is recognizable today. Yet another kind of door lock is a wafer tumbler lock. This type of lock is usually used in cars and trucks and cabinets. Yet another commonly used type of lock is the lever lock. These locks are commonly utilized in safes and prisons.

There are also mechanical and electromechanical locks. Presently there are countless of variations of the different types of locks. One of many variations we have the panic bars, lock sets, lock boxes, deadbolts, mortise locks, bump-proof locks to name a few These variations are what are presently used in properties and houses. With today's technology used in lock for the doors we have state of the art security features. Emergency exits doors are installed with one of these security features usually alarmed panic bars. This is also already being used in our car door alarms.

With the revolutions in our technology and the tireless work of our inventors we can be confident that the improvement of the current door lock will continue and our security and safety will be elevated allowing us to rest well at night time. We should all remember that.
