In the rapidly changing world that is online marketing, targeting intelligence andsocial media, branding is becoming more and more the status quo. Companies are taking more control of their own marketing and are branching out to the world ofbranding themselves.
Branding has never been easier or more popular. Just because something is easy or popular does not necessarily guarantee that the branding will be successful. As usual, money is at stake in the branding game. Those who are able to do and do it well will see profitable returns on their investments of time, talent and man-hours. Those who fail will not only lose today's investments but tomorrow's returns as well. These factors indicate the necessity of using savvy caution when beginning to use branding and social media to promote a company and/or product.
It is important to do your research beforehand and follow a few simple guidelines.
Know your goals. Know what you want to do with your social media projects. Have clearly defined goals and objectives for each project. Know how much time and resources (ie., money, man-hours, etc.) you can invest into each particular project and stay within your own guidelines.
Know your message. Know what you are about. Know what you want to say and how you want to say it.
Know your audience. Know your demographic. Know how you can impact said demographic for the greatest impact. Who is your audience talking to?
Know the history. Know who has done branding well and figure out how they made it work. Know who has and who is currently influencing your audience. Do your homework beforehand so money is not lost as you explore the branding phase of business.
Brand consultancy can be intimidating. It is not a task for the faint of heart but for those who are looking to challenge themselves and the status quo. Done well it will pay great dividends both literally and figuratively. Done poorly it will have dire consequences. It is well worth the time and effort to do your homework before embarking on the branding adventure. Branding can greatly benefit both producer and consumer...if done and done well.
