It appears that 80s Tribute Bands are the necessary feature to have when organising a succesfull event. But why the shift away from the standard ABBA tribute or sixties bands?
The answer is clear, but one worth reiterating to grasp why 80s tribute bands are the flavour of the month...or should that be decade?
Like everything, times change and we all get older. Music, fashion, taste and style advances. The youth of the day grow-up and have families of their own and then get to a certain age where they want to revive their youth. We all have this need to hold on to the best years of our lives. So why is it the time for 80s tribute bands?
If you think about it 80s tribute bands are now in fashion because the common age of people that now go to these events grew up in the 80s. This also explains why 60s bands are not so fashionable as you would have been born between 1940 and 1960 to have grown up through this time. Lets face it, without being rude there's not too many party animals in their 80's. The bottom line is that generations have moved on and now it's time for the 80s tribute bands to reign.
The 80s were a revolutionary time for change in fashion and the music scene. Boundaries were being pushed and with the progress of equipment new exciting sounds were being produced. Two major developments included the introduction of the Compact Disc and the arrival of MTV and the music video. Music was very diverse with several new styles emerging. New Wave, Electro Pop, Techno Pop, Heavy Metal, Rap all had their time in the 80s and should have their place in any 80s tribute bands repertoire.
So what should you expect from 80s tribute bands?
Good 80s tribute bands should be able to capture the whole essence of the 80s music scene and not just one given style. The whole look and sound is essential for any 80s tribute band and they have to be able to play all the classic hits that you would expect. Adam & The Ants to ZZ Top as well as some of the classic one hit wonders... Hey Mickey by Toni Basil, Soft Cell and Tainted Love, Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) as well as the classic bands and acts of the 80s to pay tribute to the likes of Madness, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, Cher, Lionel Richie, Cyndi Lauper and The Eurthymics and the list goes on.
