There are many physiological and psychological causes that contribute to Vaginismus. Hearing things such as vaginal penetration is painful and that it bleeds during intercourse for the first time are some of the psychological factors that lead to Vaginismus whereas past traumatic sexual assaults and straining of the vagina during child delivery are some of the physical causes responsible for Vaginismus.

These bacteria are transmitted from a partner to the woman or can also enter the woman due to other reasons such as at the time of a miscarriage, during delivery and so on. The bacteria moves from the vagina and through the cervix to other parts of the female genital organs such as the fallopian tubes, uterus, pelvis and ovaries which causes pain.
