With summertime well and truly upon us, hair removal, waxing and smooth skin are top of the list requirements for wearing your favourite summer outfit or hitting the beach.
To get the very best results out of your waxing, here are some simple tips and tricks to have your skin looking smooth and glowing!
Keep in mind, that while most people do not have irritations beyond a minor irritation or reddening of the skin temporarily there are no guarantees as to what your reaction to waxing will be. So if you are worried, you should patch test a small area 24 hours prior to making an appointment at your beauty salon.
Before Your Wax
Gently exfoliate your skin every 2-3 days to remove dead skin, and to also ensure after your waxing appointment, hair can grow freely to avoid ingrown hairs.
Ensure your hair is about centimetre long too short and the hair will not wax easily, and to long will make your wax a little more uncomfortable than necessary
During Your Wax
For the ladies, we do not recommend scheduling your waxing 2-3 days prior to and just after your menstrual cycle, as this is when you are the most sensitive.
Breathe! For those new to waxing, it can be a daunting experience, but just relax and let our highly trained Beauty Therapists take care of you.
On the day of your appointment, we recommend wearing loose clothing, and for bikini waxing, we recommend loose fitting underwear. Depending on what you are getting waxed, tight clothing can result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
After Your Wax
Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyper pigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun or solarium. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
Avoid heavy exercise 24 hours after your wax.
No hot baths, hot showers or sexual activity for 10 hours after a Brazilian. While your pores are open, they are vulnerable to irritation by the extreme temperatures and infection by bacteria
Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation. You may notice hairs growing within a week of your wax- it takes about 2-3 cycles to even out your hair growth.
