It is easier to do this when it's your child answering the door.
The next thing that you should do is educate them to ask who is on the other side of your door. They must get a concept of who the individual is and why they are attempting to get in touch with the person of the home. If it's the pizza guy or even just somebody claiming to be a police officer make them offer you some proof.
This is when a peep hole may come in handy. You want them to be able to utilize something that may allow them to see the individual that is on the other side of the door and whatever they may attempt to be hiding. Naturally in many cases the person can be who they say they are.
Whenever you teach your kids how to safely answer the door they will probably be more aware of what might happen outside of your home. You need to also attempt to teach them what to try and do if somebody tries to grab them while on street or when strangers come to talk to them.
