Car Recalls Update: Toyota Conducting One Final Recall for Possible Gas Pedal Flawed Vehicles

DETROIT, M.I. Car recalls have been ongoing for Toyota since November 2009. Recalls ranging from sticky gas pedals to faulty fuel pipes and even high-pressure fuel pumps with problematic pressure sensors, Toyota Motor Corp has had continuous car recalls for over a year. After one final recall of 2.17 million vehicles, all of Toyota's investigations will be officially closed.

The vehicles being recalled in three separate car recalls are as follows:

Lexus RX330, 2004-2007

Lexus RX350, 2004-2007

Lexus RX400H, 2004-2007

Toyota Highlander, 2004-2006

Toyota Hybrid Highlander, 2004-2006

Lexus GS300, 2006-2007

Lexus GS350, 2006-2007

Lexus LX570, 2008-2011

Toyota 4Runner 2003-2009

Toyota RAV4, 2006-2010

Since 2009, more than 14 million vehicles have been recalled globally. The biggest recall included this main problem of the accelerator pedals sticking and pedals getting caught in the floor mats. Once the car recall began, Toyota began losing sales by the thousands, ending 2010 with Toyota selling 0.4 percent fewer vehicles, while the rest of the industry grew 13.4 percent.

As the various car recalls were being conducted, Toyota was being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with the help of NASA. After 10 months of searching through thousands of pages of code to search for any defect in Toyota's electronic throttle system, Toyota Motor Corp was finally cleared of all allegations.

After the current recall was announced, federal regulators said that this recall would conclude its investigations. David Strickland, NHTSA Administrator, saying in a press release, "TheNational Highway Traffic Safety Administrationreviewed more than 400,000 pages of Toyota documents to determine whether the scope of its recalls for pedal entrapment was sufficient," and once they made a determination they "asked Toyota to recall these additional vehicles, and now that the company has done so, our investigation is closed."

Although this is one more recall, it is hoped that Toyota will be able to put these chain of events behind them and move forward.
