If you looking to buy a home on one of the capital's ten priciest streets, you'll have to raise at least 5.95 million, according to a new report.
Victoria Road in Kensington, west London, has been named as the most expensive for property in England and Wales by website Mouseprice.com.
House prices on the street close to Hyde Park, once known as Love Lane and now the address of the Vietnamese embassy, have surged by 28 percent over the past year. Poets TS Eliot and Robert Browning lived in the neighbourhood, and those well-versed in house price data will not be surprised at how much it costs to live there with the average property on the street now has an estimated value of 6.4m.
The address has climbed from 10th place in the ranking a year ago to the top of the list, courtesy of one property being sold for 11m in 2010. Eight regions saw values rise from last year, with London's average increasing most dramatically, from 5,545,900 to 5,946,580.
The street runs down from Kensington Gardens, with major attractions such as the Royal Albert Hall and the National History Museum in the neighbourhood.
It takes over top spot from Chester Square, which headed the list for two years. The square, in London's Belgravia, which is home to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, drops to third place behind Ingram Avenue in Hampstead, north London.
Zipporah Morrison Baker, at Mouseprice, has described London as the place to live in the UK.'
She continued: London is always the most expensive place to live. It is the finance centre of the UK and is where all the jobs are. London is very difficult to find space in. Having green space outside or close to the property helps command a premium price.'
