It had been released in the year 1983 and with time various versions have been brought out in the market. The growth and origins date back from 1981 to 1995. It is in 1981 that Charles Simonyi had been hired by the leading giant. Previously it had been named as Xenix and soon after it was christened as Microsoft Word. At first, it was not as popular as it is now. But Microsoft steadily made a lot of improvisation in the product and released newer editions 2.0 through 5.0. In the year 1985, Word had been ported to the Macintosh. After its release, sales of Mac went up than its MS-DOS peer for at least four years term. The next edition had been shipped in the year 1987 which had been named as 3.0 to synchronize its editions with DOS. It involved various internal enhancements and novel features.

Word ever since 1995- Word 95 for Windows was the foremost with 32-bit edition of the product.
