Ok so recently we wrote an article about Ferrari and Ford having a set too over a new. So when we got wind of some more litigation in the USA involving the Ferrari name we jumped at the chance to cover it. So heres the story, recently a Ferrari F50 that was impounded by the FBI was written off whilst on a test run.
The story broke by the Detroit news actually started back in the 2000's when it emerged that the car had been stolen from a car showroom. The dealership obviously devastated at their loss claimed on their insurance cover to recover their loss.
Five years on the Ferrari was revered by the FBI, they held onto the top of the range car as it was to be used as evidence in an upcoming trial against the perpetrators. Whilst the car was being moved before the trial an eager FBI agent decided to take the sports car for a spin. Unfortunately he was not prepared for the power of the car and immediately lost control running the motor off the road.
Of course to make matters worse it was completely written off, by law the car whilst being held by the police was not actually their property. The insurance company was obviously not very happy as they could have recovered the money they paid out on the claim by selling the car. So of course the insurance company filed a claim against the police for the full cost of the insurance.

This was initially rejected by the US courts as it was deemed that property held by the FBI should not be covered by the same possession laws as the rest of the population. The insurance company immediately and understandably appealed and made a request for details of the crash under the freedom of information act (which was denied). So they have again filed a claim against the FBI and the case continues.
