Our supermarket shelves veritably buckle under the weight of all the many brands and types of cleaning Products, all-purpose cleaners, and the many ranges of multi-purpose degreasers. What's the difference and will we save money by buying less?
Basically - and very generally - all-in-one cleaners are designed to clean all surfaces, as well as all-purpose cleaners (you still need to check the label though), and multi-surface cleaners clean most (but not all) surfaces. However, there will always be instances where some products will not be effective, or surfaces on which they should not be applied.
These products clean most surfaces in the home without giving us a cupboard full of sprays, cans and bottles. We are often subjected to their claims to be tough on dirt and grease, removing stains, and/or killing the majority of household nasties. Cutting through grease in kitchens is performed particularly well by citrus based cleaning products, which is why many multi-purpose cleaners smell of orange, lemon or lime.
It's confusing, but there are some multi-surface cleaners which may not be suitable for cleaning certain areas, whilst generally speaking all-in-one cleaners are fine to use on most surfaces in most rooms of the house. Check the instructions before purchasing to see what surfaces the product can be used on.
Are some brands better than others?
Most of us will at some point be guilty of just going with a "better the devil you know" philosophy, choosing big brand names rather than their often cheaper no-name counterparts. Identical products are often marketed under a different name by companies using the same ingredients. The art of saving money is comparing labels.
Example, multi-purpose cleaners can be as much as forty percent cheaper the the most expensive brands BUT nearly identical. Also on offer these days is a growing range of green cleaning products, some of which are also designed to be multi-purpose. Study the packaging so as you are aware of the product's composition.
Look on the shelves in any shop or wholesalers and you will find a domestic or commercial cleaning product for just about everything imaginable. Buying a specialised product for every surface which ever needed cleaning would cause you to rapidly run out of cupboard space. There are plenty of cleaning products which could well work on many types of surface if you tried them out; when you buy a multi or all-purpose cleaner they are tried and tested on a wide variety of surfaces.
Do they offer you purse protection?
It is unnecessary to buy a different product for each type of surface to be cleaned. A surefire route to sky high cleaning bills is to buy separate cleaning products for numerous surfaces and jobs which just may not always be necessary.
By having an effective multi-purpose cleaning product you eliminate the requirement to carry around several bottles or cans whilst performing cleaning tasks, and it saves on storage space too.
Everybody can cut costs and try to save money on the household budget. This can be acheived in part by consolidating your household cleaning products. If your usual multi-task cleaning product doesn't work well on tough jobs then it doesn't really fit the description of an all-purpose cleaner. Generally speaking though, you will be surprised by how few cleaners you really need to keep your home clean and how much money you can save.
