With the industry in a volatile position, Toyota is getting set to take the market by storm once again. While the Leaf and the Volt are new, fresh brands, Toyota expects to capitalize off of the Prius name by keeping the name and going electric. After all, the Prius brand was the brand that started this entire revolution in fuel efficiency anyway. Gurnee used cars can certainly attest to that as there are plenty of new and used Priuses out on the streets of the city as we speak. The new plug-in model of the Prius, however, threatens to run the competition off the map with a quick sweeping fist of ultimate sales glory.
In order to gather some data about the new vehicles, Toyota will be testing these bad boys out through a new program that delivers them to the New York City Department of Transportation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Now let's not get too excited. There is a built-in hybrid feature in the new plug-in Prius model, so it isn't entirely electric. But they fixed it with it in case of emergency, so I wouldn't worry too much unless your commute is longer than 60 miles.
