It seems the four-cylinder Porsche is back by popular demand. The last one was eliminated in 1995, but the new engine is said to displace 2.5L and can put our 360 horsepower with a turbocharger. More powerful than the Boxster, if not a locomotive.
New Canaan used Porsche customers may have to wait a bit to see this engine come to market, but this rumored boxer four-cylinder could show up in the Boxster Cayman or even the Porsche 911. Who knows?
Perhaps this engine indicates the arrival of a new Porsche model. It could certainly be used with the current models, but one theory in the auto industry is that it might be placed in a more affordable new model. When economy comes into the equation, both in the price and fuel savings, it becomes more viable for younger buyers and families and more palatable to those with a strong environmental conscience.
For some reason, luxury automakers seem to be even more discreet when it comes to new models and are certainly not giving out any details just yet.
