Is it time to renovate your in-ground swimming pool?

You've enjoyed thousands of hours of fun in your backyard swimming pool but you've noticed some signs of wear. It might be time to consider a swimming pool renovation, especially if you're looking at a home remodel project give your pool a facelift at the same time as your home.

Also, if you live in an area of the country that is faced with extreme weather such as in the northeast these shifts in weather take a toll on your swimming pool.

Do you think it's time for a renovation? We offer these items as a checklist to determine if you want to give your pool a facelift:

How old are your pool materials? Take a walk around and look at the swimming pool tiles. Are they worn or slippery? Are they cracked? Smooth tiles are a sign of the passage of time and could also lead to swimmers with wet feet slipping and falling. If there are safety issues, it is definitely a reason for a renovation project.

Are there signs of age? Have the pool walls or floors become cracked? Are there stains that you just can't remove? Are there discolorations of the pool liner? Again, if you are in an area of the country that is subjected to extreme weather conditions, that can also lead to cracks in the tiles. Cracked tiles can lead to trips and falls and should be replaced.

Have you outgrown your pool? Did the house come with a swimming pool that just doesn't meet the needs of your family? Is it too small? If you can't swim laps or can't have a great game of water volleyball because it's too crowded you might want to extend its width or length. This is a much larger project, but could be worth it and will give you many years of enjoyment.

Does your pool still look pleasing? A style that you fell in love with when you installed your swimming pool years ago may no longer be you're your tastes are today. If you want to upgrade your pool for aesthetics, consider new tiles, a new filter or even adding a fountain or tanning shelves.

After making the decision to renovate your swimming pool make sure you know the budget under which you will be operating before you call pool contractors. As with every renovation project you undertake, you'll want to check with more than one contractor to garner estimates. A pool renovation project is a huge undertaking and could take weeks, or even months, so plan it during a time when you won't miss being able to hop in and swim.

Once it's complete, though you will be happy you did it because a renovation project will breathe new life back into your swimming pool.
