Want To Succeed In Network Marketing? Time For The Red PIll

I started my venture into Network marketing in 1996.

For the first ten years you might say I was an old school network marketer. during this time my chief approach was what we called "belly to belly" marketing which meant you demonstrated your opportunity right in front of a real, live human being. I often did this on a larger scale before a live audience.

Some people I knew used an assertive form of belly to belly marketing called the "3 foot rule" which meant that anybody who got within arm's reach was a possible prospect and ended up with a business card and a tape. Notice I didn't say CD.

My chief technique for developing my business involved business cards, newspaper ads, home meetings, trade shows, one on one demos, cold calling, mailing campaigns and by teaching classes. There might have been a few more but they escape me at the moment.

In the last couple of years I've brought my business to the internet. Yes, I'm a slow poke and for me it has been a very steep learning curve. Many of the words listed below were foreign to me when I started:

SEO, PPC, URL, HTML, .JPG, .GIF, Video Marketing, Article Marketing, Copy Writing, Popups, Twitter, FaceBook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Squidoo, Technorati, WordPress, Blogging, Skype, Social Media, Split-Testing, Conversions, Squeeze Pages, Capture Pages, Sales Pages, Landing Pages, Auto-responder, Webinar, Backlinks, Permalinks, Trackbacks, Pingbacks, Keywords, Tags, Plugins and Widgets!!!

I've been noticing a trend and you can see it all over the internet. Many network marketing gurus are teaching that you can forget all those out dated marketing systems because now everything can be automated. You can recruit all the distributors you want into your organization on total auto-pilot and at the press of a button. You don't even have to pick up a telephone.

it's time to take the red pill.

If you want to promote your network marketing on the web you need to know two very important principles:

1. Internet marketing is far too complicated for most people to be able to pick up easily.

Remember my list of new terms above. As a new distributor you will not be able to duplicate yourself with ease if you only rely on the internet. And duplication lies at the very soul of network marketing.

I personally know a man who asked me why his "computer kept asking him about a LAGOON." it dawned on me later he was describing in his own way about having to LOG ON. There are a LOT of people out there just like him.

You can reasonably expect to take at least six to twelve months of dedicated effort for you to get comfortable with internet marketing so don't assume your downline to be picking up on it right away either.

2. Network marketing is very people oriented. It is in the end about building relationships. You'll have to stop hiding behind your computer and get on that phone if you want to make a go of it.

If you want to win in network marketing my recommendation is you begin with your warm market and follow these essential steps:

1. Focus on your intended outcome

2. Work at your business every day using a mixture of offline and online strategies. When starting focus on simple activities that your team can duplicate.

3. Present your opportunity consistently. Get a steady flow of prospects. Don't worry too much about how your page is ranking.

4. Generate momentum. Get new team members started right. Do just what your team is doing. Teach your new members to start by contacting their WARM market.

5. Build community and loyalty. Get your team on weekly training calls and encourage them to go to your company's live trainings. Build your organization from event to event. The number of team members you have at these events is a measure of your success.
