This season, Reggie Bush was making $8 million playing for New Orleans Saints. With his $8 million, he missed 8 of 17 games, carried 36 for 150 yards, and received 23 for 34 yards, fumbled and touchdown once.
The 25-year old Reggie Bush was picked 2nd overall in the 2006 NFL draft and has been a Saint since then.
He is entering his final year of his contract with a base salary of $11.8 million next season, which he believed himself he is unlikely to receive. He admitted that he'll consider restructuring the contract so that he could remain as a Saint but it remained uncertain at what price he's going to agree with.
He stated that he's not likely to receive his base salary of $11.8 million in an interview while they cleaned out their lockers at the Saint's Airline Drive facility.
This is in no way stating that he will not be back in his Saint's uniform when the league and the players come to a bargaining agreement.
Bush further expressed his loyalty to the Saints and he'd prefer staying in the Crescent City. He still wants to play for head coach Sean Payton alongside his teammates and of course quarterback Drew Brees.
Having expressed his loyalty, he's willing to renegotiate and go through whatever is going to help him stay in New Orleans as a Saint. He stated that he has to be fair to himself and to whatever the market sets. He knows there'll be major restructuring and negotiations and there are a million things that can happen.
He just wanted to be back and play his entire career out as a New Orleans Saint. In fact, he has set this goal and wanted to reach this in whatever means necessary.
Of course, the cost of services will be the major point of renegotiation as it has been for other players as well. Considering the fact that he missed almost 21% of his games with New Orleans with knee injuries and broken bones and this season he missed out 47% of the games with broken fibula not to mention the season-ending loss at Seattle where he took himself out from the game after taking a bruise on his shin that he fractured in September, overall it doesn't look like he's an asset at all and he recognizes that at least for this season he didn't perform well for whatever is $8 million is worth.
Reggie Bush was disappointed at his performance as well especially knowing he was not able to live up to the expectations of the fans and the league from the financial perspective.
