Recovering From Surgery On The Foot
Recovering From Surgery On The Foot

Whether you broke your ankle or had to have surgery on your foot for whatever reason, it can be very hard to recover from. Walking is something that people take for granted until they have to be in bed for months because of a recent medical procedure. Foot surgery especially can take a longer time to recover from because it is harder to get those muscles working after you have not used them in a while. Depending on what has been done and how serious it was, the time it will take depends. If you have noticed any problems with your feet and think that you should get it looked at, there are many podiatry clinics available; you just have to find the one closest to you. You may be able to move around after recovery, but you will have to be extremely careful that you do not put too much pressure on the foot that just got worked on. Not only would it be very painful, but it could damage whatever was just done because it is very fragile right after the procedure. If you are given a boot to wear or a bandage, do not take it off unless your doctor tells you that you can. Walking with crutches is also the best idea so that you are not hopping around all day on one foot. Shortly after your procedure, you may want to stay in bed for a few days or at least stay in your home and recover. It may not seem like a huge deal, but walking around on a very fragile foot can be frustrating as well as painful. Take medication if you got any from your doctor and be sure to take it exactly the way your doctor tells you. You want to make sure that you take it all and not stop half way through even if you think you are fine. While you are resting and recovering, it is best to have someone there with you. The last thing you would want is for something to happen and need help doing something but you have no one with you. If you fall, it is important that someone is there to help you or prevent it from happening at all. You will also not want to be getting out of bed or off of your couch that much so it will help to have someone there to get you whatever you need such as food. Any surgery is going to take time to recover from. Some things are not as serious as others, but some are more of a hassle. You will need rest, help, ice and medication. After a few days of resting, you will be able to start recovering but walking might still be difficult. You cannot just sit on your couch forever though so the sooner you get up and start walking around, the sooner it will heal and you will be able to do all of the things that you did before without any help.
