The next general elections shall be a challenge?
Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.
The people of India is a democracy, but in spite of their best efforts they could not choose right type of people for their august houses. It is on record that they were not choosing competent and honest people and that had been the reason, most of the elected people had been indulging in scams, scandals, muddles, bribes, corruption and there are reports that they had been favouring industrialists, people in commerce and rich people just to have benefits through other means. In fact, we could not elect a popular government and after each election, the people were sorry to elect people who were not fit to govern this country.
We can say that the people had been trying their best to have a better government and because of their vote power they could write off family rule, then party dictatorship and then they could write off individual autocracy and brought this alliance governments. But even this stage is not good for the people because most of the ministers are not getting such seats because of their merits, but they could get share in the ministries just on the basis of their members in the government. The alliance system has come and it shall continue for some decades because there is no alternative to this system.
Therefore, the people must avail this system and they must start choosing right people. They must take into account the past of each person, his education, his training, his experience, his honesty and integrity and only then they should cast vote in his favour. We should forget this party base, but we should concentrate on the merits of the person so that better people could be introduced to our august houses. This is possible for us. We know that most of the people are getting party tickets against heavy payments and they also claim ministries on the basis of these payments and that is the reason most of the ministers are not getting these portfolios on the basis of merits. The ministers are not competent people and that is the reason the bureaucracy has also joined with them and now all are looting the people and nothing more. The news which we are receiving through the media are shocking for us and we have been informed that the wealth which we had been creating and establishing since 1947 had been looted by the people in power and they themselves have turned rich persons and they have reduced the people to poverty and if this system continues, we shall become a country of the corrupt people and all this shall bring shame for us. Therefore, we must come up from this sleep and accept the challenge which shall be before us soon and we must start thinking on this subject and this time we shall choose competent and honest people and while choosing such people, we shall ignore the party from which they are having nomination. This is the only out-way and we shall adopt this method this time.
