In may 2010, my Filipina friend and i decided to go to Hong Kong for a few days.We were on a tight budget and we needed a change from the typical high-priced hotels in Kowloon. We decided to stay at a hostel, acheap hotel which they have all over the world for budget minded travelers.
We went to Chung king mansion- a block long area where most of the hostels are located in Hong kong.We booked a room at the apple hostel .It was a great decision - we shared a single room- no frills - just a shower, a bed and a tv.It cost around 35 Hong Kong dollars a night. 10 american dollars.We saved a fortune on our hotel bill.we only went back to our room to sleep anyway.The rest of the time, we were out enjoying the sights of Hong Kong.The rooms were totally safe.The staff had put strong locks on all the doors.
All the rooms had high-speed internet access for your laptop. I made good use of that. The rooms were cleaned daily and it was very quiet for sleeping at night.There were about 15 hostels in a square block on Nathan road in kowloon .All of them were about the same price.The huge lobby area had an office for wiring money,a currency exchange and every type of restaurant and shop you could think of.
There were a vast diversity of people staying there from all over the world. A lot of the people there were from africa and the middle east.
We stayed there for about 4 days.We really enjoyed our stay .Chung king mansion is near all transportation and is located near the star ferry to Hong Kong island.
We will definitely stay there again if we return to Hong Kong. My opinion about hostels has definitely changed .It is not just for backpackers-it is for all people who wish comfortable lodging at a quarter of the price of a large "name" hotel.
