British Academics - How To Improve Your Concentration

Concentration is the ability to focus on a task while ignoring distractions and any stimuli that is not related.

Many students have difficulty concentrating while studying. To be able to concentrate while you are studying, it is essential to do well in class and on tests.

In concentration we muster up all our energies into focusing on just one thing. When concentration is mastered we can be of unimaginable benefit in our life; through this concentration we can increase our productivity and give ourselves greater peace of mind.

These are some suggestions for improving your concentration.

Learn to Control Your Thoughts

The main block to concentration is the distraction we get from our own thoughts. These random, uninvited thoughts distract us from achieving pure concentration. The only solution is learning to control and pipe down our thoughts.

First is to do awareness of the choice to welcome or reject thoughts; we should not feel helpless of our own mind.

Second, we need to consciously watch our thoughts and preventing ourselves following any line of thoughts that detracts us from our concentration.

Practice

The more we do practice, our concentration becomes better. Don't expect to be a strong runner without doing some training. Concentration is like a muscle, the more we exercise and use it, the stronger it becomes. Specific concentration exercises can be done, such as focusing on a small object; but life itself presents numberless opportunities to sharpen or modify your concentration. The key is to always take opportunities to increase our powers of concentration.

Meditation

The practice of meditation will definitely modify our powers of concentration. When we try to meditate, concentration is the first thing we need to master or dominate. An everyday or daily period of meditation gives us the chance to specifically work on concentrationtechniques like breathing for 10 to 15 minutes can help us overcome stress and find peace of mind and balance. This exercise is simple but effective.

Change is as Good as a Rest

It is difficult to concentrate on one thing for a time period. The best solution is to give ourselves frequent switch. If our concentration is doing only one task for an hour, we can then move onto another task after the other for us to do something different. This shift in activity enables us to use different qualities; therefore, we can maintain our powers of concentration without becoming tired of one activity.

Physical Alertness

The power of our concentration relies upon our physiological well-being. If we are exhausted, unhealthy, and upset by numerous minor ailments, concentration will be more challenging. However, we have to make life simple and uncomplicated for ourselves; we need to give a high priority to our physical health getting enough sleep and staying physically fit by doing regular exercise daily. Exercise will help develop or create our concentration. It will help by dropping or losing weight, clearing the mind and creating a sense of dynamism. If you struggle and attempt to concentrate, we need to think of a holistic solution; good physical health and fitness will definitely help develop our powers of concentration.

Train yourself to have tunnel vision

You can actually cup or shape your both hands around your own eyes. This will serve as a trip to tell your mind to focus on a non specific to specific responsibility. Example, you are in a room and feel very distracted and you need to study but there are many things preventing you from concentrating. Cupping or shaping your both hands around your eyes may help your brain change your focus and keep it on its track.

Have a handy pad

When a thought burst into your mind and causes you to lose focus, jot down or write these thoughts right away. Jotting it down is an effective way to get it out of your mind. After which, consciously concentrate on the task that you need to carry out at the moment.

Vary your activities

It is better to vary the activities you do in order to keep your mind progressive and not bored.A bored and tired mind will just easily travel and drift away to oblivion. All in all, these activities and tips need to be exercised regularly for you to concentrate and focus on the things that really matter most for you.

Do five more

The two kinds of people in the world are those people who recognize on how to get rid of frustration and those who people who think they are capable and competent to work through it. This sort of mantra is optimal when you feel like giving up. For example, if you don't feel reading or writing any more pages, tell yourself to do just five pages more. Finish just five more questions or pages.

Record your start and end times

When doing work, try to put down the time you started and the time when you mind begins to move. Doing so tries helps you know just how much time you spent doing a real work and the time when you started losing your concentration.
