I Saw the Devil is a jaw-dropping experience, full of extreme violence, frank sexuality, dubious morality and an over-the-top storyline that veers from unspeakable tragedy to borderline comedy. What initially feels like a been-there-done-that affair becomes something exciting and original, morphing unexpectedly into a perverse comedy of protracted, over-the-top vengeance.Min-sik Choi's tour de force performance sells the comedic potential of the killer's torment with his exasperation over the multiple beatdowns he suffers, but he also seamlessly maneuvers into the remorseless monster whose reprehensible actions fuel the horrific elements of the story.
