Slightly, Flu and cold are alike, and most people take the flu as the cold or the cold as the flu. Actually, the flu and the cold are totally different starting from the causes, symptoms until the reliever. Below are easy tips to know the differences.
The causes
The cold caused by Rhino and Corona viruses.
The flu caused by influenza type A, B, and C (type A has the worst impact among them, every 10 years there is always a new variety of this virus type replacing the pre-existing strain)
The symptoms
The flu. Suddenly attacks you with high fever, no cough, severe exhaustion level, headache, low appetite, fatigue and has chills. Your nose is not affected, sore throat will accompany the flu and may lead to burning eyes.
The cold. Slowly attacks you with no or medium fever, cough, medium exhaustion level, no or localised headache, normal appetite, no fatigue, and causing no chills. Your nose drips and gets clogged up with sneezing and sinus membranes are usually inflamed. Sometimes, sore throat will accompany the cold. May lead to sinus infections.
Reliever
The flu. Take a rest by staying on bed at home as long as the illness persists. Acetaminophen can be used for fever, aches and pains. For more severe influenza A, you can take an antiviral drug (amantadine or rimantadine) by following the doctor recommendation. Increase your immune system.
The cold. Hand-washing is still the effective way keep you away from cold viruses, because the cold viruses are transmitted by droplets or respiratory secretion. Avoid touching your eyes or nose - there might be infective droplets on your hands - and if possible, clean possibly contaminated surfaces with a virus-killing disinfectant. Keep your personal hygiene by avoiding tools sharing especially with an infected person. Increase your immune system.
