Is the wait finally over for Wladimir Klitschko vs David Haye?

British newspaper "The Daily Mail" is claiming that the David Haye vs Wladimir Klitschko fight is "on the brink of becoming reality" after Haye made some comments on Twitter hinting at a potential fight with Wladimir Klitschko. Haye's most recent tweet states:

"Does some well overdue Klit licking potentially being on the horizon be something you may be interested in?"

The speculation has been fueled further by the fact that David Haye's scheduled fight against Ruslan Chagaev on May 21st is now in doubt for a number of reasons.

Haye's team have been waiting for the decision by the British Boxing board of control as to whether or not Ruslan Chagaev would be cleared to fight in the UK. Chagaev has a history of Hepatitis B which the board were considering before giving him the all clear for the May 21st date.

Chagaev is a mandatory challenger to Haye's WBA title so in the event that Chagaev is unable to fight, Haye would be lined up to fight Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin.

However, the May 21st date now looks doubtful for any challenger wishing to fight Haye since several sources are claiming that rival fight promoter Frank Warren has negotiated a deal with Sky Sports to show Nathan Cleverly's fight against Jurgen Braehmer on May 21st. This date was previously set aside for the Haye vs Chagev fight but without British network coverage, this is unlikely to go ahead.

Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to fight British boxer Dereck Chisora on April 30th and then potentially Tomasz Adamek in September, (providing Vitali Klitschko does not take up the challenge).

Last week we reported on KlitschkoBrothers that Wladimir Klitschko had changed his mind about the suitability of a 2nd July fight with David haye, claiming that it may actually be too soon after his fight with Chisora to be practical so it is unclear whether or not he will make himself available for the 2nd July .

Haye's hints are perhaps an indication that an agreement is close but followers of this saga know won't put anything in their diaries until the announcement is made official. As always, watch this space..
