subject: A revelatory teaching on the grace of god [print this page] A revelatory teaching on the grace of god
This teaching on grace was first given as an exhortation by me at a well attended lavished Breakfast Fellowship meeting' organized by the Council Of Foursquare Men' (CFM), Headquarters Church, Yaba in Lagos State, Nigeria several years ago when Brother Okike was their president, and I, a senior pastor of one of the Organization's local churches in Lagos. The purpose of my invitation as a guest speaker to that event was for me to stir up the men to know what more gigantic works (projects) to embark upon in their local but Headquarters church in order to please God and the leadership of the Church in their area of services. But I must confess that my teaching fell short of their expectation as I did not encourage DOING as much as I dwelt on BEING according to the revelation I received personally on the topic and the passage of the Scripture given to me for the occasion. I could not compromise what I received from God with the wishes of men. The Topic given to me was, "What Lack I Yet?", and the Scripture passage was taken from Mathew 19:16-20. At the end of the exhortation (I call it exhortation because the time allotted to the sharing of the word was just too short), a member of the executive assigned to see me off managed a smile at me as a sign of appreciation with an envelop containing honorarium: a key reason many preachers like to fly about churches in search of where to be guest speakers.
Maybe I disappointed them when it comes to what they had in mind because, due to the dealings I had had on that passage of the Scriptures prior to the time of my invitation, I found it very difficult to bend the context of that scripture for what enterprising able rich men of the church who were ready to do anything for God with a little propping wanted me to say. But none of us expressed the disappointment openly. So I went home satisfied that, at the least, I had shared what was laid on my heart. Maybe they went home also regretting that they got it wrong by inviting a wrong person who allowed the important personalities invited to the breakfast show to go back home without enough challenge to them to empty their fat pockets and wallets. Poor me! I could have done so if not that I had an unseen Master who led the exhortation the way it should be. It was that same passage and topic that over the time He had elaborated in my heart and caused me to put down in writing as a material which is in many hands right now.
