Ways to Make Money With a Second Job and Not Burn Out From It

We are all looking to find ways to make money as we fight through these unsavory economic times. The prospects of taking on a second job is always great, in theory, yet never seems to work out very well once we start actually doing it. There are some simple rules to follow when taking on a second gig that can help you not only prevent burn out, but help you continue holding down both jobs with a long-term schedule that you can maintain.

While you seek out ways to make money from that second job, the first thing you have to establish are what time commitments do you have other than working your first job. Do you have family obligations such as watching small children, taking older kids to soccer practice, cooking dinner, or home projects like that remodeling job you are half finished with. Be sure you allot yourself the time for these things right away so they are not conflicting with your potential second job. This will not only keep your life from becoming incredibly stressed, but will keep your spouse happy too!

Once you have allot the time for your other obligations, then you have to allot realistic time for your sleep and leisure. If you try and cheat your sleep, over time you will definitely burn out as you scramble to establish ways to make money for yourself. If you allot proper sleep time for yourself, your second job can be sustainable. It is better to only work a day or two a week over years than survive a month working a lot of hours and then quit. Once you develop where your free time exists, then you try and find the job that fits into that time slot. This will be the healthiest way to go about picking up that second job.

Ways to make money are always a good thing to have in your back pocket, but going about doing these things in a healthy way that does not ruin your family life or destroy you physically are always a better way to manage it. Keep in mind that the old adage that for everything gained there is something lost is true, and the more hours you spend away from home or not sleeping when you should will catch up to you in the long run. Keep a good balance and stay healthy.
