The Apple iPad might be one of the most revolutionary devices to have been launched in the last few years, but it seems that many manufacturers have found a chink in its armour. Hence, there has been a number of tablet PCs that are available in the market today, which were launched very recently in the aim to dethrone the Apple iPad. However, it is unsurprising to know that none of them have succeeded, but there seems to be finally a solution for the unending quest to end the Apple domination in the tablet PC segment and it will be the Motorola XOOM. This new tablet PC has been recently unveiled by Motorola to the CES 2011 and it was the talk of the show.
One of the biggest reasons for this is due to the 10.1 inch touch screen display that is the tablet PC is employing. This touch screen display will not only be capable of recognising multiple touches due to the presence of the capacitive currency, but also will be capable of accommodating extremely high resolution images as well. This is because the screen itself has a very heavy resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, which easily overtakes the Apple iPad. This high resolution display will also be coming with the accelerometer for automatically adjusting the screen according to the position of the tablet PC. The Motorola XOOM will be coming with internal memory that is expected to be offered in three different versions, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. This is exactly similar to the way in which the Apple iPad is sold in many countries and it seems that Motorola are sticking by this formula.
However, Motorola have gone even further than the Apple iPad by offering the Motorola XOOM with additional memory card support as well. The maximum possible memory that can be expanded by using the memory cards will be 32 GB, so in the end you will be able to use up to 96 GB worth of content in the Motorola XOOM. This astonishing amount of memory will be taken care of by the dual core 1 GHz processor that is going to be similar in terms of specifications to the processor that is seen in the Motorola ATRIX, but the difference being that this processor is tuned for performance rather than saving the power. This may be due to the presence of a significantly powerful battery.
Even though this is a tablet PC, it will still be coming with a five megapixel camera that is also expected to be persisted with the presence of the two megapixel camera. The two megapixel camera will be used as a front facing one for video conferencing and other tasks, while the five megapixel camera will be mostly used for high end photography. The Motorola XOOM is going to be launched in the United Kingdom within a few weeks and it is going to be available for around 500.
