Schedules are being shortened and developments need to be delivered much faster to satisfy customer timelines. Therefore, the Prestige Engineering team has had to gear up to new ways and means to get things done faster than before. New technologies, materials and methodologies need to be constantly brought in. If development is the core business of the company, Engineering forms its heart as without it the word "Developer" will have no meaning. Prestige Group work revolves round the three principles of cost, time and quality all of which are given equal importance. All developments, irrespective of the type, go through an evolutionary process. This encompasses a series of activities like conceptualization, feasibility study, sanctions processes, preliminary design, budget estimation, detailed bill of quantities, tender processes, contractor appointment, detailed design and good for construction drawings, material procurement, sub contractor appointment, project management, site supervision and execution, project close out and hand over to end users.
As is apparent, the process is extremely complex and multidisciplinary. Therefore, key activities such as design and construction are outsourced to specialists consultants (architects, structural engineers, service consultants, quantity surveyors, project management consultants) and contractors (civil, electrical, plumbing, fire fighting, air conditioning, vertical transportation, etc). Given the number of agencies involved, extracting the work from them in time and within the specified costs in it presents a great challenge. In this regard, Prestige's engineering department has been blessed with highly qualified, experienced and competent professionals at all levels who have time and again demonstrated excellent teamwork and coordination with the outsourced partners.
The results are there for all to see and admire in the list of developments completed till date. The leadership shown by the management and the support provided by other departments within the organization have also been exemplary and are major contributors to the success that we continue to enjoy. Looking ahead, recent changes in statutory rules have brought in the need for multiple basements and high rise structures. This poses new challenges to the engineering team in terms of design, execution, availability of technology, adaptation of new techniques hitherto not done in Prestige projects, much more emphasis on quality, safety, logistics, temporary works, coordination with specialist consultants and contractors, 3rd party evaluation and validation of design, etc. Prestige is confident, however, that its Projects & Planning team's knowledge and experience can certainly overcome the new challenges.
