Directv Extends Contract With Replacement Of Faulty DVR

A popular satellite TV provider, DirecTV in the United States of America, is once again in the news. People have filed another complaint against the company with the Attorney Generals. They have alleged that the satellite TV giant is continuously extending contract without their notice. Although, we have come across many such grievances put forward by subscribers in America, this one seems to be a bit different, though.

A person was DirecTV's subscriber since 2007 and received a DVR receiver along with a regular receiver, both of which were leased. He was informed by the customer support representative at that time that he was on an annual contract. The subscription was working fine with the subscriber until his DVR crashed, which was replaced. No doubt, his DVR was replaced, but he was also informed that he was into a two-year contract. Although he was expecting that his contract has come to an end post a year, but to his utter surprise, his contract was extended.

While asking for an explanation from the DirecTV's customer support representative, he was told that since he got a DVR receiver at the time of signing up, he was enrolled into the two-year subscription and not into annual program. Shockingly, he understood that the customer representative of DirecTV lied to him to get the business, which was completely unethical. Moreover, since his defective and leased DVR was replaced by them, his contract was extended beyond second year.

What was more surprising was that the contract will continue to be extended every time the DVR receiver gets non-functional and is replaced. This means that the subscriber will have to remain in the contract with the defective DVRs that keep failing and the company keeps replacing and extending the agreement.

From this horrible incident, it is evident that DirecTV has not only used bait to lured consumers, but also employed it illegally. This has really upset customers at large; who felt misled and deceived by none other than a satellite TV giant like DirecTV.

DirecTV has agreed to restitute subscriber, who have been grieved since 2007, but it has not accepted its wrongdoings, though. It has settled the disputes with Attorney Generals by paying a fine of $13.25 million. However, it seems that the list of complaints against DirecTV is continuously rising. If any one of you feels that you have been cheated, then you can instantly lodge a complaint with the AGs or call them. You can visit their official website for any other related information.
