subject: Coffee Is My Life [print this page] Coffee Is My Life Coffee Is My Life
I can't live without coffee. It is my food, water, and air. Not literally though. This is just the way I express myself with the pleasure I feel with my coffee experience. Every morning, this is the first thing that comes into my mind. The moment I come into my senses, I am hallucinating the sweet aroma smell of coffee. I am crazy about coffee. It is my company where ever I go and whatever I do. I may be at home, in the office or together with my friends. Whenever I am sad, happy, or stressed, coffee is just right their beside me. It is the witness of every event of my life.
My insanity with coffee doesn't stop there by just merely enjoying its aromatherapy. I fostered and deepened my relationship with it. To eventually make it happen, I investigated and made further research about coffee, its benefits and effects aside from the ones I get.
As I hit the internet, as the most convenient and accessible way to research, I discovered that there are universities, laboratories, and organizations who have conducted a study about coffee. It is fascinating that most of the articles that I have read about coffee stated greater advantages than the disadvantages. Though they said that they cannot exactly prove yet that these are the effects of coffee. But in my substantial sense, I believe that coffee is good for our health. To better weigh both sides of the positive and negative effects of coffee, I want to share to you my research findings from the different websites I have studied on.
The effect of coffee depends on several things. When you are not quite awake, as may happen when you are getting up in the morning, the caffeine in coffee will raise your level of alertness. When you are already alert and active, it may over stimulate you and in some cases, the body responds to that state by dampening down its own metabolism. That would explain why coffee might relax you. The other relaxing effect of coffee is the psychological effects resulting from giving your body and mind a "treat" by having a coffee break. Caffeine impacts positively on alertness and performance, and this in turn can help elevate overall mood. As the caffeine in coffee helps enhance alertness and attentiveness, this can lead to better performance at work. It is well documented that a couple of cups of coffee and a short nap are the most effective method of alleviating driver fatigue. Many road accidents occur as a result of a driver falling asleep at the wheel so yes, coffee may improve road safety. Road safety organizations advise drivers to pull over, drink one or two cups of strong coffee and take a 15 minute nap. Following a long plane journey, the caffeine in one or two cups of coffee can help you to remain awake/alert when you reach your destination until it is time for bed. Coffee is also a good source of fluid so it will help keep you hydrated which will also ease the feelings associated with jet lag. Coffee is linked to prevent certain body conditions and diseases that include type II diabetes mellitus, cancer, Parkinson's disease, liver disease like cirrhosis, and gallbladder stone formation.
Benefits of coffee are definitely significant when taken in the right amount everyday. Four to five regular cups of coffee is safe for healthy adults. However, there were studies wherein pregnant women should consume not more than 300 mg of caffeine per day. Recent guidance from the Food Standards Agency in the UK recommends that pregnant women limit their caffeine intake to 200 mg per day (approximately two regular size cups of coffee). It remains to be seen whether this precautionary point of view will be endorsed by scientific bodies around the world. All sources of caffeine should be considered when considering total daily intake; including coffee, tea, cola drinks, energy drinks and chocolate.
