Getting more traffic to your site isn't all that hard. It's a matter of going out there and building links back to your site in various ways. Think of links as highways that funnel traffic back to you.
Not only will you see direct traffic from them, but they will also help you rank better in the search engines over time. Here are five different ways to increase your backlinks and create more traffic for your site.
Social Bookmarking and Social Media
A very simple way to build backlinks is to use social bookmarking and social media sites. Anytime you write a good article or blog post, tweet about it and post it on your Facebook wall. Use social bookmarking sites like delicious and StumbleUpon to get even more exposure and links for your content.
Forum Participation
Find a few popular forums in your niche and start to actively participate in them. It's a great place to learn more about your target customers. Answer their questions, be helpful and they'll be glad to check out your profile and forum signature links. Each time you make another post, you are strengthening your profile page and thus the link back to your site.
As an added bonus, you should get plenty of ideas for things you can write about as you browse through these forums. Each post you make is the beginning of an article, which brings us to our next strategy.
Article Marketing
Write short and informative articles that are about 400 to 600 words long and submit them to your favorite article directories. You'll see some traffic directly from the directory and will get a strong link or two back to your site.
Other webmasters will often come to these directories to find fresh content for their own sites. Whenever they republish your article, you get another link back to your site (along with extra traffic).
Guest Blogging
You can also approach some of the bloggers in your industry and offer them unique blog posts for their sites. Of course these posts will also include a link back to your site.
Guest blogging is a great way to get yourself in front of an audience and it can send you quite a bit of highly targeted traffic.
Free Reports
Last but not least, you can repurpose some of those articles and guest post and turn them into short reports. The report will of course include a section where readers can learn more about you and your websites and should include several links back to you.
You can then give the report away to your list, use it to grow your list and even offer it to other website owners to share with their readers.
As you can see, nothing I do in my business to build links is just for the sake of a backlink. There's always at least one other reason to do it. Look at link building the same way and it will go from feeling like a threaded chore to an integral part of your overall marketing efforts.
