The economy is a wreck. There really is no denying it. It's affecting just about everyone, including the HVAC industry. Everyone from manufactures to technicians are worried about when the economy will rebound, and if they can manage to make to the rebound.
Any company involved in new construction will be lucky to survive as the first thing that stops in a weak economy is construction. Fortunately the same issues that are wiping out new construction are bolstering service. Businesses may not be throwing up new buildings, and home owners may not be looking at replacing that aged furnace, but they are interested in keeping what they have running.
This is were the service industry picks up, and smart HVAC companies will take advantage of the situation. This is the time to mothball the construction group, and build up the service arm of your business.
The first step is making sure the service customers you have are happy; remember, it's cheaper to keep a current customer than to lure in new customers. The second item that needs to be on your agenda are your service technicians, make sure they are properly trained technically and in the art of customer diplomacy. The third item on your "to do" list is to look for new customers.
Obviously this is a ten thousand foot view of what needs to be done, and how to do it; our intention is to make sure you realize that you can not only survive, but thrive in this new economy.
