subject: Backlinks Get Free Traffic for Your Website [print this page] Backlinks Get Free Traffic for Your Website
Being a new blogger, with a new website, I've been searching out ways to get more traffic. I could pay for it, but I've learned so much over the last several years that I want to be able to put that knowledge to use and generate as much free traffic as I can pull in.
In the beginning I'm trying to spend about 1 hour a day for a month making backlinks. I'll see where my traffic volume rates after that time and tweak as necessary.
So, where to get started with backlinks? I'm trying writing and submitting articles to popular article sites. I'm placing an author bio box with a link to my site and hoping that readers will like what they have read and want to read more about what I have to say.
After submitting to article sites, I'm hitting some popular blog sites and making comments (including my link). I'm actually learning a lot too while visiting the blog sites. One word of advice when you are commenting on a blog is to always read the blog post, before you are commenting on it. Most moderators won't accept comments that say, "Great post" or "I like your blog." You need to make sure comment (and your link) worth accepting by the blogger.
Next, I stop by a few of my favorite forums. I have my signature set with a little about my blog and my link. I also have my profile page set-up with my web URL. Make sure not to post an ad though, if they aren't allowed. Make a thoughtful and relevant comment about the post, and make sure that your signature is attached.
Social bookmarking is becoming a more popular source for backlinking. The idea behind this technique is to bookmark your site, on a popular bookmarking site, and add an enticing description. This will hopefully draw in other people to look to see what your bookmarked site is all about. There are sites such as blinklist and Stumble Upon where you can list your site.
I'm not really sure how useful this will be for you, but I tried it myself, so I thought that I would pass it along. Go to your search engine and type in the words "website value estimator websites." There are sites out there that will tell you what your site is worth. Some sites will hold your link in their site, giving you a backlink. If you are just getting started, don't be surprised if they tell you that your website is worth very little.
Other quick and east backlinking ideas:
Try posting to the Craigslist classified ads and make sure to include your link.
Respond to questions on Yahoo and give your link as source.
Start a Wikipedia Page about yourself and place a link.
There are so many other ways to get backlinks, but this should get you started. Remember, the more backlinks that you are able to get on the net, the more people that will be able to find you!
