Modeling may sound like a fun, glamorous, and easy profession however there are pros and cons to every career. Professional New York models need more than to fit a certain body type and have a pretty face. Top models have more than those aspects, and some of the most famous models were known for their imperfections. For example Janice Dickinson, top model of the late 80's, was always told her lips were too big and she had too exotic of a look, until she made it big.
Criteria:

The competition is tough and if you want to make it as a model then you need to learn how to make connections. This means talking to people and networking. Educate yourself on current global events, industry trends etc. People notice other people who speak up and know what they are talking about. No one wants to work with a dummy.
Pros:
Of course the advantages of working as a model are well worth the hard work and tough competition. Models never work the same day twice therefore are constantly exposed to new experiences, people, and places. Working in the fashion industry also means receiving free stuff such as clothes, event invitations, and professional photographs. Of course the most obvious benefit is salary. A New York model can make anywhere from $200 a day to $1,000.
Cons:
There are some cons when it comes to a professional modeling career such as constantly keeping up with your appearance. Working as an NYC model means keeping your body healthy with a good diet and exercise. It also means having your body and looks judged on a daily basis. As a model you must take care of yourself and learn to take criticism well. Although a benefit, traveling is also a con. Constant traveling can leave you exhausted and jet lagged.
