Arica is a port city located in northernmost Chile, at only 18 kilometers south of the border with Peru. Founded in 1451 by the Spanish captain Lucas Martinez de Begazo, this beautiful city was once part of Peru but then it became part of the Chilean territory in consequence of the War of the Pacific.

Arica is the capital of the region of Arica and Parinacota, established in 2007. It has a population of almost 200 000 people and is popularly known as the City of Eternal Spring, due to its warm temperatures throughout the year. The city boasts many historical and natural attractions which has transformed the city into an important tourist destination in Chile. The Morro de Arica, scenery of a crucial battle during the War of the Pacific, is a tall hill located in the city. It offers a wonderful panoramic view of the whole city. At the top, there is a small square which holds a large variety of monuments and nearby visitors can find a commemorative Arms museum. Arica also features beautiful beaches such as Las Machas and Chinchorro, ideal to rest and practice surf.

Arica also counts with amazing buildings such as the neo-gothic San Marcos Church and a magnificent wrought-iron construction designed by Gustave Eiffel. Nearby, tourists can go to the Chungar? Lake in the Lauca National Park.

Visitors can find several hotels in the city. A Hotel Arica is well equipped to cater to the needs of local and foreign vacationers. Since the city offers several cozy accommodations, it is not difficult to find an Arica Hotel at a reasonable price.
