Garmin Approach G5 Golf GPS Review - GPS Golf Rangefinder

Garmin Approach G5 Review

I recently bought a Garmin Approach G5 GPS Rangefinder to see if it would improve my overall game plus of course my putting, and driving. This is my Garmin Approach G5 review and it should assist you if you're thinking about buying a Golf GPS.

Garmin Approach G5 - What is it for?

When playing golf the Garmin Approach G5 offers me constant data and overview on my playing statistics. It has helped me to improve my game of golf, as it highlights both my strengths and weaknesses. My handicap has visibly improved as has my golfing confidence over the last few months.

Keen golfers take note, this product contains Garmin's GPS technology by using a highly-sensitive GPS receiver. So in other words you can understand shot distances really precisely to fairways and greens whilst hopefully avoiding hazards.

Everything is contained within the handy sized Garmin Approach G5, which also has golf course data for every course you'll ever want to play.

The Approach G5 is Waterproof and Rugged

The first thing I noticed about the Garmin Approach G5 was how light it was. It didn't hinder my game and most of the time I simply attached it to my belt or put it in one of the pockets on my golf bag. It's also waterproof and I played in the rain on a few occasions with no adverse side effects. Garmin state that this is a rugged Golf GPS and they're not wrong. I've dropped it more than I can care to remember, got it dirty, and it still works just right.

Garmin Approach Touch Screen GPS

This golf rangefinder is touch screen, and I found it really easy to use. I'll be honest with you, I didn't even bother reading the Approach G5 instructions that came in the box, like the most people I suppose! But I didn't need to, that's the beauty of the Garmin Approach GPS.

It's pretty simple to operate, and just involves touching the screen where you want to measure shot distances to and from. The data reads really accurately so I am not guessing how far my shots need to go anymore and I've started to use clubs I didn't really use before because I can select shots loads better.

Pre-Loaded Golf Courses

The Garmin Approach G5 Golf GPS comes with thousands of golf courses already loaded, and I'll be honest I've not seen a golf course that's not on there yet. But in the unlikely event your golf course isn't on there, unlike other Golf GPS products you don't need to pay a registration fee to get new updates. All you do is go to the Garmin website and download new courses for free.

Also on the Approach G5 I found that the golf courses that are loaded on are really detailed so you can make sure you miss the trees and other hazards. As a result my handicap has started to improve over the last six months and I am managing to avoid the bunkers better than I ever did.

Digital Golf Scorecard

Love this bit... I can play golf with up to four buddies, and use the Garmin Approach G5 GPS an electronic scorecard and keep a tally on how everyone is doing. If you're competitive like me then this is a nice touch when pacing the greens.

My Final Thought

My advice would be if you want to play a better game of golf then buy the Approach G5 Golf GPS. It's good for not just beginners, but is also used by professionals. The Garmin Approach G5 rangefinder can improve anybody's game.
