Would You Be Prepared in an Emergency Car Situation?
Martha was on her way to work when she suddenly noticed something. It felt like her gas was leaking, and before she knew it she saw that her car started up burning. She got out, but since she had no formal training on what to do in this situation, she cried silently as fire ate up her entire vehicle.
Are you like Martha? Are you not prepared for car situations that may put your health and safety in great jeopardy? If your answer is yes to both questions, then it is time to do something pronto.
Know the basic first aid. You figured in an accident where you suffered a sprain or a great pain in the neck, or you suddenly bumped your head into the dashboard. It is very important you know how to do first aid before you go to the hospital to relieve yourself of the pain. And just in case you cannot do the first aid on your own, you can ask someone to do it for you with your guidance.
There are several health and safety training courses you can join in, and one of the classes may be emergency first aid. To know which classes are available in your area, you can coordinate with Red Cross or any health and safety organizations.
Learn fire training. One of the most common things that can happen when you are driving is fire. You may come across fire, or your vehicle may catch one. Fire training therefore is highly essential.
Another of the many health and safety training courses, fire training will teach you how to avoid catching fire in the first place. You will also be taught how to avoid inhaling the smoke, get out of the car in no time, and even save those who find themselves in a "fiery situation.
Have your emergency first aid kit ready. Carry your emergency first aid kit with you at all times, especially when you are traveling. You do not know when emergencies can happen. Sometimes you will find yourself injured in the middle of the road with the nearest health care facility several miles from your area.
What should be found in your emergency first aid kit? Red Cross has a good list of supplies and equipment that must be in your kit. These include a mask, bondages, a scissor, gauzes, and few medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen (they are helpful if you start to feel pain).
Do not drink and drive. Drunk driving remains to be one of the top reasons of vehicle collisions, injuries, and even deaths, particularly among teens. Health and safety should be about prevention first before cure, so do not get behind the wheel if you have drunk alcohol.
Be a good driver. Never drive if you cannot control your anger and anxiety, are fond of riding in top speed or violating traffic rules, or love to cut other people's planes. You should also never be on the road without your license or vehicle insurance. That equals to an arrest.
