This year, the 10th cricket World Cup 2011 will be hosted by three south Asian cricket playing countries India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Pakistan were also supposed to host the World Cup but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan national cricket team in Lahore the ICC decided to strip Pakistan of its hosting rights.
This year ICC World Cup will start from 19th Feb with the first match to be played between co-hosts India and Bangladesh at the Sher E Bangla national stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. World Cup 2011 will use the one-day International format with 14 teams scheduled to compete, which are divided into two groups of seven each.
The opening ceremony will be organized by Bangladesh on 17th Feb, just two days before the mega event. The final match and the prize giving ceremony of this year's World Cup will be held in Mumbai on 2nd April. Sri Lanka will host the semi final of the ICC World Cup.
Bangladesh will feel really proud and overwhelmed as it is the first time for them to host the World Cup.
This year Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches including semi-finals but now those matches have been divided by the ICC among the other host countries. Eight matches have been given to India while four went to Sri Lanka and last two matches were awarded to Bangladesh. The head quarter of ICC has been shifted to Mumbai from Lahore. Pakistan only get some amount as compensation money from the ICC after the World Cup. All the stadiums of India are being renovated.
This year 49 matches will be played in the World Cup 2011. 6 matches are scheduled for each team before proceeding to the quarterfinals. After qualifying, the teams will be allowed to play in the quarter-final round. Subsequently, four teams will progress to the semifinals and lastly the final of the mega event will be played between the two strongest teams.
The official song "De ghuma ke" by Shankar Mahadevan has also been unveiled and its official video was launched on the day of the opening ceremony on 17 February 2011 in Dhaka.
All the three Asian nations have been putting their vigor, courage, enthusiasm and spirit to prove their existence to the whole world. We cannot say who will be the champion of this year's World Cup but being Indian we will really want to win this year's Cricket World Cup 2011. So, Chak de India
