Muslim Organization Hezbollah In Control In Lebanon

Many people were injured in Lebanon when the demonstrations became violent, as thousands took to the streets. They were protesting the decision to have a Hezbollah-backed politician create a new Lebanese government. They strongly objected to what they believed as Iran and Syria attempting to take over Lebanon.

Nominating a billionaire businessman, the Hezbollah, a Shi'ite Muslim organization, wanted him to take over the post of prime minister.

Rejecting the group's accusation that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon was an American or Israeli tool, Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri lashed out at Hezbollah for using its weapons to influence internal political disputes.

Considered to be a resistance movement throughout most of the Arab and Muslim countries, Hezbollah, or Party of God, is Iranian bank-rolled. It openly declares it is the most powerful political force in Lebanon.

Hezbollah is able to mobilize demonstrations in the hundreds of thousands. Using mobile phones and the social network, the Arab Wave Revolt demonstrators all carried the same placards and shouted the same slogans.

Hezbollah's 1985 manifesto revealed its four main goals as

Giving the people the chance to choose "with full freedom the system of government they want," while not hiding its commitment to the rule of Islam

"Israel's final departure from Lebanon as a prelude to its final obliteration," ending "any imperialist power in Lebanon,"

Submission of the Phalangists (a right-wing Lebanese political party, mainly supported by Maronite Christians) to "just rule"

And bringing them to trial for their crimes,

Syria supplies political support while actively influencing political developments inside Lebanon. Hezbollah members receive military training, weapons and financial support from Iran.

Numerous countries, including predominantly-Sunni Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt have condemned Hezbollah's actions in the past. However, like the Mulsim Brotherhood, the Hezbollah uses programs for social development to promote its cause.

The U.S.A. classes Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, however Israel, who was closely watching the fragile border between Lebanon and Israel, felt there was no immediate threat.
